Hammer Head Guide
The Hammer Head is a unique striking pad that gives unsurpassed realism. Many of the same precautions should be followed as with any other striking pad.
Holding the Hammer Head:
- Try to keep a bend in your elbow.
- When gripping it, please try to use a firm grip but not too tight.
- When your training partner strikes the Hammer Head, there will be a recoil. It is important that you don't keep it near your face.
- Some strikes are stronger than others. Circular strikes and kicks can generate tremendous amounts of force. You should go with the force instead of resisting. Repeatedly resisting such strikes can cause joint and shoulder injuries.
Striking the Hammer Head:
The Hammer Head is not like a flat surface strking pad. You will know when you hit the mark or when you "slide off" the mark. The versatility of this product is only limited your imagination. One thing to note is the Hammer Head is not a soft sponge as other target mitts. It is comprised of two layers of highly compressed foam material. This has the effect of creating a very durable product and has been compared to a makiwara by some of our testers. It also simulates a more realistic feel of striking someone in the head (let's face it, a person's head is not made of soft sponge). Some care should be taken in the beginning if you have never hit anything harder than the pads found on the market today.
